A Story of Courage & Transformation
From the silence of Missouri’s earliest years—when children with disabilities were hidden away—to the parent-led revolution that changed everything, this exhibit traces over 200 years of progress, setback, courage, and transformation.
It’s a story of families who refused to accept “impossible.” Of teachers who traveled to homes when schools wouldn’t open their doors. Of advocates who turned church basement meetings into federal law. And of a new generation redefining what inclusion truly means.
Made possible through funding from the Missouri Humanities Council, this digital companion brings Missouri’s journey of inclusion to life through audio tours, educator resources, family discussion guides, and interactive content for each era of our shared history.

Education becomes a right, not a privilege.
